Domenico Morelli

Napoli 1826 -1901

Alongside Filippo Palizzi, Morelli was the most important artist of the second half of the
XIX century in Naples.
Teacher at the Fine Arts Accademia, he subsequently became a member of the commission
constituted by Francesco De Sanctis to institute the A.I.M to which he left noticeable proofs
of his collaboration.
Morelli's attention was focused on historic, literary and religious subjects which were source
of romantic inspiration for his work.
He also practiced the 'real life' study and understood the need for Applied Arts to develop
into the more contemporary industrial field. His most meaningful works of art are housed in
the Galleries of Rome, Florence, Milan and Naples.
